You play the role of El Presidente and it is your job to steer the fate of the Caribbean island nation of Tropico with foresight and ingenuity. This Tropico 6 guide offers agriculture, trade, and policy tips so that you can quickly make a million dollars and earn the wealth victory.
Quick investment in factories
Basing your economy on farming and exploiting natural resources is possible, yet not very profitable. Prices of basic goods are relatively low, thus generating profit from exporting them will require you to erect a lot of buildings manufacturing particular good.
Processing some of the resources in factories allows you to generate more profit. During the initial stages of the game, it is a good idea to produce rum. Rum Distillery becomes available since the Colonial Era. Moreover, it does not require qualified workers [1]. You need sugar[2] to produce this alcohol. Erect Plantation in the right place and set it to the operational mode.
Erect proper residential buildings
In the initial stages of the game, most of your citizens will represent poorer layers of society. Thus, it is important to skip building houses for rich people right from the start. You will only lose money this way, and no one will move into these houses. Depending on the era in which you begin the game, you can erect different residential buildings. The purpose of each building and the target group are mentioned in the building description panel.
You can start building houses for rich people after people of higher social status (e.g. medical doctors) move into your country. The wealth of given citizens can be inspected in two ways. First one involves clicking on a citizen. In the panel with all the basic information, you will see this person's wealth [1]. The second way is to check the People tab under the Overview. Among the available sorting options, there is Wealth [2]. Upon clicking on that tab, you will see a chart of how your society is differentiated in terms of wealth.
Develop the transport of goods
In Tropico 6, transport plays a major role, allowing you to exchange goods between the sources of natural resources and the destinations points. Often this route is separated into several stages, each one involving carrying the goods from one building to another. This is why you should build the Teamster's Office next to each larger industrial center. This way, you will avoid any transport disruptions. If you have already begun expanding your country across other islands, do not forget to build the Teamster Port, which will allow you to exchange goods across the archipelago
Control the Overview
The Overview tab is the complete collection of information about your country. There, you can find all that is needed for supervising each aspect of your banana republic. So, you have the insight into the relations with other factions and superpowers, you will learn the complete division of your society depending on a selected parameter, and learn if there is any threat from the rebels. This allows you to act quickly whenever something goes wrong.
Build a Library as soon as possible
The library is the base location where the Knowledge Points are generated. These are required to unlock next decrees and building upgrades. Thus, erect a Library asap. It is available since the Colonial Era. Even if you do not plan to initially conduct any research, you will gather points for the technologies you will develop in the future.
Do not split your country across several islands right from the start
Initially, focus your country on the starting isle. This way, you limit the transport routes you develop on the island. This translates to fewer drivers and thus, saving money. Only after your country begins to generate profit, the time is right to begin expansion upon the next islands within the archipelago.
Don't construct large number of buildings
Each building requires workers. Early in the game you will have a shortage of people. Because of that, avoid creating too many buildings. This would reduce their effectiveness due to the lack of enough workforce. The number of free work places and unemployed people can be found in Alamanac.
Quickly start educating your people
With each new era you will need more educated workers. Because of that, you should construct High Schooland College as early as possible. Otherwise you will have to use raids and pay for employers from beyond the island (you can hire them by clicking the free spot in a building). Additionally, you can issue the Literacy Program that will speed up the learning process.
Familiarize yourself with the location of raw materials
When you start the game, familiarize yourself with the distribution of resources on each island. It will help you plan the future distribution of most industrial centres. In this way you will avoid the accidental development of deposits.
Control the range of buildings
Buildings such as Fire Station or Newspaper have a specific operating range. It is marked with a blue circle. Buildings of this type should always be constructed in such a way that they cover as much of the area as possible. Avoid erecting such buildings in places where expansion possibilities are limited.
