PixelJunk Monsters 2
PixelJunk Monsters 2 is a cute tower defense game about turning trees into weapons of war for the sake of protecting some chibi tiki dudes, and it's coming to PC on May 25. Developer Q-Games released a for it earlier today, so you can sample its first level now. You're gonna need a controller, though, and ideally an Xbox controller (it wouldn't register my PS4 controller connected via Bluetooth). You play as Tikiman, a slightly taller tiki dude and the spirit of the forest that a whole bunch of monsters are invading. PixelJunk Monsters 2 adds to the original with new towers and multiplayer modes, but it's still the same sort of tower defense game: turn trees into towers to fend off waves of enemies and stop them from reaching the base where the chibis live. Killing monsters earns you gold you can spend to place towers and gems used to upgrade them.

Hey guys just wondering what other peoples opinions are on the new Pixel Junk Monsters 2 that was released last month.I was going into it as a huge fan of Pixel Junk Monsters 1 couch multiplayer, having completed the game on all difficulty levels with my wife. Then we discovered the expansion and beat that one as well and really enjoyed it all. It was by far one my favourite multiplayer games of all time. We have even revisited it years later to replay the whole game again. So price wise, Pixel Junk Monsters 2 was seemingly a good deal at 20$. Not bad for a game we only do couch coop on and we kind of had high hopes. My first impression was that the game developers really did a good job updating the graphics as the game looks really cool. The tilt shift effect looks really great.
Real racing 1. The updates to the towers made them look more interesting and detailed, very well done. Adding in environment items like the stone to take out creatures was another neat idea. Now getting into a 2 player game. Not as easy as the last where it was a menu option but not difficult. We start up a game and notice instantly that the tilt shift effect is a bad idea for the local multiplayer since it only allows for one area to be properly visible and not blurry. This means only one character is typically in focus at once. Maybe they can disable this effect when two players are in game?
Maybe we missed a setting in the menu that allows you to do this?Secondly, when my first player character traversed the screen, at some point, it pulls my wife's character over to mine. This also seems like a bad idea as this, to me, is no longer multiplayer, it is really just 1 player and a lackey. The first player will never snap over to the second player, it is only the 2nd player that gets moved back to the 1st.Finally, the map is so focused on the 'middle' of the screen and never backs up to see the map/area as a whole.
We found this really annoying when enemies come from off the screen in an area we aren't specifically in as we are upgrading towers instead of randomly wondering the map checking elsewhere constantly. This really takes away from the fun of running around upgrading and forces you to be on the lookout for enemies in 'blind spots'.In the end, I am pretty dissappointed in Pixel Junk Monsters 2. My wife and I have already moved back to our last game we dropped in favour of PJM2.I am curious what other peoples experiences have been with the couch coop aspect of the new PJM2 game, I would love to hear others feedback and if you had played the original. Played the original with bf and rainbowed everything.
I agree with all your points the pluses: graphics, terrain is at least interesting even if its annoying getting stuck sometimes, decent pricewise, adding fruits and boulders to interact with the map more, its overall more pixeljunk monsters with different levels and such.Cons: why the first person pov? Never used it. Snapping to the first player in multiplayer, I wish the map simply zoomed out. It was annoying having to run to different sides of the map because things are happening and we can't see where!
Accidently exploding fruits though I guess that's our fault. Logging into multiplayer but only first player getting achievements. Trying to dance up towers together but if one person leaves to get stuff the progression stops! Why is there no button to see progression on all towers? Why change the level colors? I thought there would be new towers and monsters even of it's the same kind with a twist. I wish there were different icons for the different monsters off screen at least.
Why can't mayhem be unlocked after the first two are rainbowed? I wish they came out with more levels. I didn't realize there were so many cons.but overall I enjoyed the difficulty. Ditto with pretty much everything. Additionally, we got it on the Switch and noticed the load times were TERRIBLE, did anyone else on a different platform notice the same? One thing that we noticed too is that we were used to the 'wheel' of tower creation appearing where you are, but it is 1st player on middle of left side and 2nd in middle of right, and sometimes that can cover stuff / throw us off. Also the smoke that appears after a kill may be a bit too big / linger too long, but that is just a style thing.+1 for missing the 'see progress for all towers' button. Thanks for the warning.
PJM is in my top 5 coop games of all time and I've been waiting for a sequel for years. Was super disappointed that it had a season pass when it released though.Once that happened, I figured that since I had waited so long already, I may as well just wait another year or so for the complete version with all the DLC. Not once did I think to investigate any further than that as to the quality of the game though. Pretty much took for granted that it would just be more of the same great formula plus some new improvements. Disappointing to hear that's not the case.
